We are honored to share stories from this past year at The Jo—and we can't wait for you to learn more about our school from some incredible members of our community. We hope their experiences inspire you!

Thank you for investing in the leaders, changemakers, and visionaries of tomorrow. We are so grateful for your partnership and hope you enjoy reading their stories now!

Letter from Leadership

Dear Josephinum Community,

It has been another big year at Josephinum Academy of the Sacred Heart, and we are excited to give you an inside look through the pages of this spring’s Conversation Piece.

Each and every day, we watch students become the leaders, visionaries, and changemakers of tomorrow. They inspire us with their tenacity, courage, bold vision, compassion, and commitment to their communities—both here at The Jo and across the city of Chicago.

It is our great honor to encourage these skills and passions.

Through returning programs like our partnership with the UIC College of Nursing and new initiatives like our THRIVE Scholarship, both of which you’ll read more about in this Conversation Piece, we are creating opportunities for students to learn, lead, develop new skills, and prepare for their futures.

Thank you for supporting us, encouraging us, and helping make these opportunities possible. We are so grateful that you are part of our community, and we hope you are as inspired as we are by the stories of our students, teachers, volunteers, donors, and friends in these pages.

With gratitude and hope for all that is to come,

Richard McMenamin

Meet Paris, Class of 2024

Paris, Class of 2024, overcame enormous obstacles on her path to success at Josephinum Academy. Now, as a senior, she’s leading the way for her peers.

Partnering with the Community: UIC Peer-Mentor Leadership Program

Nurse Claudia, a UIC doctor of nursing student, identified a huge need for mental health literacy among high schoolers. This year, she led a peer-mentor program at Josephinum, equipping students to learn about mental health—then teach their classmates.

The Future of The Jo: The THRIVE Scholarship Initiative

Beginning in the fall of 2024, the THRIVE Scholarship will cover 100% of tuition for up to 40 incoming freshmen, thanks to the incredible generosity of our donor community.

Celebrating our Community

Catch up on our 2023 events. At our Spring Luncheon and Fall Gala, we come together with new friends and old to celebrate our remarkable students and ensure young leaders find everything they need to build brilliant futures during their time at The Jo.

"Keep dreaming and believing in yourselves. Take risks, ask questions, and be the change you want to see in the world. You have the skills, so dig deep, find your convictions and passions, and speak up."

-Principal Schrantz

Thank you, Principal Schrantz!

Our beloved principal, Colleen Schrantz, is leaving Josephinum Academy at the end of this school year. Principal Schrantz has been an integral part of our community at The Jo, and we are so grateful for all she has done to invest in students, support teachers, guide our vision, and encourage us all.

“Josephinum has given me the courage to take this next step,” she said. “We always tell students to keep their eyes open and listen to their hearts—and that’s why I’m taking this leap.”

We will miss Principal Schrantz’s leadership and support—and we wish her all the best on this next bold adventure. Thank you for everything!
